FIFA President, Gianni Infantino has sent a goodwill message to Ghana who have also booked a spot in the highly-anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup which will be staged in USA, Canada and Mexico in the summer of next year.
This will the fifth time the Black Stars will be playing at the Mundial after previous four appearances (2006, 2010, 2014 & 2022).
The four-time African champions in the qualifiers finished as winners of Group I with 26 points; culminated from eight wins, a sea and a defeat from ten matches.
Otto Addo’s men climaxed the qualifiers with a slim 1-0 win and a perfect revenge against Comoros in their final game at the Ohene Gyan Stadium last Sunday evening.
In a video, the Swiss-Italian football administrator, now FIFA boss congratulated Ghana for the qualification and added that he is very optimistic they will make a very good tournament in North America
“Congratulations to the Black Stars on reaching the FIFA World Cup for the fifth time in history,” he said, adding that Ghanaian fans will inject unique energy into “the greatest FIFA World Cup ever in 2026.
“We expect that your team will establish more global stars to follow in the footsteps of the famous team that made the quarter-finals… in 2010.
“But for now, enjoy this special moment, and we cannot wait to see who the Black Stars will face when we have the final tournament draw on the fifth of December. See you all very soon. Well done. Congratulations.”
The Black Stars will have to wait until December 5, to determine their group and opponents for the next World Cup and will be in pot five of the upcoming draw.
The Black Stars will regroup again next month to take on Japan and South Korea in two highly-rated friendly matches to wrap up what was a great unbeaten year in competitive matches with five wins and draw from six games.
