President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has heaped praises on the Black Stars for securing the country’s fifth FIFA World Cup qualification at senior level and has tasked to at least make the last four in the highly-anticipated tournament.

This will be the fifth time Ghana will be playing at the Mundial after previous four appearances (2006, 2010, 2014 & 2022).

The four-time African champions in the qualifiers finished as winners of Group I with 26 points; culminated from eight wins, a draw and a defeat from ten matches.

Otto Addo’s men climaxed the qualifiers series with a slim 1-0 win and a perfect revenge against Comoros in their final game at the Ohene Gyan Stadium last Sunday evening.

Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM’s Gary Al Smith, the first gentleman of the land said the team have made amends by qualifying after painfully missing out on the next AFCON which comes off later this year.

He further assured them of the support of Ghanaians and want to see them surpass our 2010 quarter-final run this time around.

“Failing to qualify for the AFCON was heart-wrenching for all Ghanaians, as it was the first time in many decades. Ghana has always been a permanent fixture at the tournament, so it was quite painful. However, the boys have made up for it by qualifying for the World Cup.

“We must follow in the footsteps of Morocco by going beyond the semi-finals and, who knows, with fingers crossed, bring the World Cup trophy home to make Ghana and Africa proud,” Mahama said.

“We must all rally behind the Black Stars. We must support them to the hilt. Let’s not bring in any partisan or ethnic considerations. Let’s give them our full support,” he added.

The Black Stars will wait until December 5, to determine their group and opponents for the next World Cup and will be in pot five of the upcoming draw.

The Black Stars will regroup again next month to take on Japan and South Korea in two highly-rated friendly matches to wrap up what was a great unbeaten year in competitive matches with five wins and draw from six games.
