Former Michael Essien has called on Ghanaians to rally behind Mohammed Kudus as the Ghana national football team prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has been sidelined since January due to injury but remains a key figure in Ghana’s plans following his strong performances during the World Cup qualifiers.

Essien described the 25-year-old as Ghana’s brightest football talent and stressed the importance of protecting and supporting him.

“If I start talking about him, we won’t finish!” he told FIFA.com. “I think he has showcased himself to the football world. He’s one of the biggest talents, and for Ghana, he’s our star. We have to protect him and give him all the love and confidence he needs.”

Kudus missed Ghana’s recent friendlies against Austria national football team and Germany national football team but is expected to return for the final pre-World Cup warm-up matches against Mexico national football team and Wales national football team in May and June.

The Black Stars, set for their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama national football team, England national football team, and Croatia national football team.
