Ghana U-17 coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has disclosed that the current Black Starlets players felt ''confident and optimistic'' about facing their group opponents for the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament slated for May 13 to June 2, 2026 in Morocco.

The two-time African champions have been paired alongside Senegal, South Africa and Algeria in Group D following Wednesday's group phase draw in Cairo, Egypt.

However, the man who will be in charge of the dugout for the Ghana juvenile team has said he and his charges are ready and prepared for their group stage adversaries and will only have to work extra hard and stay focused ahead of the start of the tournament next month.

''With the group we find ourselves in, we need to work extra hard because if you look at our group opponents, they have a strong young system, so we need to work extra hard and then move on," the former Asante Kotoko gaffer told Asempa FM. "The players followed the draw, and after that, they felt confident and optimistic,'' he remarked.

The centered self-discipline tactician continued; ''For us, as a team, we are ready, but all that we have to do is to stay focused and be very confident and then work extra hard because the best teams in Africa will meet in Morocco.''

ln an excerpt of a statement, the Ghana FA said, ''The Black Starlets head into the competition with a proud history in the continental showpiece as the second most successful nation in the tournament’s history, having lifted the trophy twice in 1995 and 1999 while also finishing as runners-up in 2005 and 2017.''
