Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says the Black Stars could go far at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and may even win the tournament.
The four-time African champions have been drawn in a difficult Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
Ghana head into the competition as one of the lowest-ranked teams and have struggled for form in recent matches, failing to win their last few games.
Despite this, Mr Adams remains hopeful the team can surprise stronger opponents.
“I will say that we are preparing. If I tell you that we are ready, we don’t even have a head coach,” he told Channel One TV.
“So it means that we are not fully ready yet. But I see us being ready by the time it’s time for us to play our first game – against Panama.
“This is a World Cup that I see us doing well. We should be hopeful. We may not have the best of players that we had in some time past, based on them playing together for some time. But we still have what it takes for us to go very, very far. Maybe possibly even win the World Cup,” he added.
The Black Stars are currently without a head coach following the dismissal of Otto Addo. However, the Ghana Football Association is expected to name a replacement next week.
The team is due to regroup in May ahead of a friendly against Mexico, before completing preparations with another match against Wales on 2 June.
Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign on 17 June against Panama, before facing England on 23 June and Croatia on 27 June.
The Black Stars will be hoping to improve on recent World Cup performances, after being knocked out at the group stage in both 2014 and 2022.
