After losing embarrassingly to Cape Verde in his first ever AFCON game, Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has admitted they are very disappointed in themselves for the painful defeat but hopes to bounce back stronger going forward.

Ghana suffered a disheartening 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium last Sunday night in their opening fixture of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Jamiro Monteiro opened the scoring account on the 16th minute for the Blue Sharks, Alexander Djiku equalised just ten minutes from the break before Garry Rodriguez scored at the death to restore their lead and seal the win.

In a post-match presser, the ex- Brighton gaffer confessed they weren't at their best and added the entire team are very embarrassed and disappointed with the outcome of the game.

"We are incredibly disappointed with the result. We came into the game with a game plan. We changed the system a bit so we can start on the front foot. We are hugely disappointed with the result. It’s a defeat we are hugely disappointed in,” Chris Hughton said

The Black Stars are currently without a point and will need a win at all cost against Egypt in the second round of matches on Thursday, January 18, 2024.
