Wilson Arthur, the FA Cup Committee Chairman, has delivered a crystal-clear warning to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), blatantly stating; he will only continue in his role if granted the freedom to operate without interference.
Arthur has been at the helm of the Committee since November 2019, succeeding Kurt Okraku.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Arthur didn’t mince words.
“For me to continue as the Chairman of the FA Cup Committee is not only in my power,” he said.
“But I will only continue as the Chairman of the FA Cup if I am given the room to have control over what we are doing.”
The Skyy FC owner has been widely credited for revitalizing interest in the domestic cup over the last three seasons, with his leadership seeing a surge in sponsorship interest, improved matchday organization, and nationwide visibility for lower-tier clubs, making the FA Cup not just a competition, but a platform for football dreams. But behind the scenes, it seems all hasn’t been smooth.
Asante Kotoko clinched the 2024/25 FA Cup title with a 2-1 win against underdogs Golden Kick and will represent Ghana in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
