Wilfred Osei Kweku Palmer, a former Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has insisted that Winfried Schäfer would have been a better choice than Otto Addo as the Black Stars' head coach.

Last week, Schäfer, a German trainer was confirmed as the new technical advisor of the Black Stars.

Schäfer was appointed to bring-in fresh ideas in improving the technical team of the Black Stars ahead of the of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, following Otto Addo's failure to qualify the team for the 2025 AFCON.

With the World Cup qualifiers set to resume in March, the Black Stars are second in Group I with nine points - Ghana will take on Chad and Madagascar.

Palmer, reacting to Schäfer's appointment reiterated that the former Cameroon gaffer should have taken the place of Otto Addo as Black Stars coach instead of being appointed as the technical advisor.

“Winfried Schäfer should have been appointed as Black Stars rather than an advisor to Otto Addo,” he told Kumasi-based Akoma FM.
