Owner of Ghana Premier League club Nsoatreman FC, Ignatius Baffour Awuah has been picked up by the Bono Regional Police Headquarters following the violent clashes during a Ghana Premier League game on Sunday, February 2, 2025.
As players and officials got into physical altercations during the tumultuous encounter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, often known as "Pooley," an Asante Kotoko supporter, tragically died.
Unknown attackers are said to have fatally stabbed Frimpong multiple times in his chest and was later confirmed death at the Nsoatre Health Facility.
Former Sunyani West Constituency Member of Parliament and Minister of Employment and Labour Relations Baffour Awuah was detained on suspicion of conspiring to commit murder.
Additionally, he is charged with instigating supporters, which is said to have played a role in the deadly altercation.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has placed Nana Kronmansah Park under indefinite suspension in response to the violence.
To resolve the situation, the GFA has also set up an emergency meeting for Thursday and Friday with Premier League teams, important stakeholders, and supporters' organizations.
In addition, Lydia Donkor, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), has been tasked with spearheading the incident's investigations as authorities seek to hold those accountable.
