The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of three individuals in connection with the violent clashes during a Ghana Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC.

The incident occurred on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the Nana Kromansah Park in Nsoatre during a Ghana Premier League match-week 19 fixture, and it led to the tragic death of Asante Kotoko's supporter.

Unknown attackers are said to have fatally stabbed a staunch fan of Asante Kotoko, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, multiple times in his chest, and he was later confirmed dead at the Nsoatre Health Facility.

The Ghana Police, in a statement on Monday, February 3, 2025, said three suspects, namely Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Agyemang Duah Owusu, and Kyeremeh Joseph, are currently in police custody assisting in the investigation of Nana Pooley's death.

Ignatius Baffour Awuah, who is the owner of Nsoatreman FC and former Sunyani West Constituency Member of Parliament and Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, and the two other suspects have been detained on suspicion of conspiring to commit murder.

It was also revealed by the Ghana Police that a search conducted in the room of suspect Agyemang Duah Owusu led to the retrieval of two dresses with suspected blood stains and an MP 23 pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition.

The Inspector General of Police, Akuffo-Addo Dampare, has also deployed a special team from the Criminal Investigation Department to assist the Bono Regional Police Command in the investigation.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has placed Nana Kronmansah Park under indefinite suspension in response to the violence.

To resolve the situation, the GFA has also set up an emergency meeting for Thursday and Friday with Premier League teams, important stakeholders, and supporters' organizations.
