Former Black Stars forward Augustine Arhinful has voiced his frustration over the lack of safety at Ghana Premier League match venues, stating that Ghanaians cannot be blamed for prioritizing European leagues over local football.

In an interview with Sporty FM, Arhinful criticized the violence plaguing the league, citing the recent tragic stabbing of an Asante Kotoko fan during a match as an example of the dangers discouraging fan engagement.

“I can’t blame Ghanaians who focus on the foreign leagues. If people are dying at the stadium, why should I take my kids there?” he said.

Arhinful also criticized the Club Licensing Board for its inefficiency, arguing that clubs often fail to meet basic requirements but are still allowed to compete.

“The Club Licensing Board in Ghana is weak. We fall short in almost all the requirements needed, and yet the clubs are still granted licenses,” he remarked.

His comments follow the tragic death of a Kotoko fan during their league match against Nsoatreman FC in Nsoatre over the weekend.

In response to the incident, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has indefinitely suspended Nsoatreman FC’s home venue and halted the Ghana Premier League while investigations are conducted.
