The Porcupine Warriors have officially announced their decision to suspend their participation in football related activities in Ghana following the gruesome murder of a staunch fan of the club during a Ghana Premier League game on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

Management of Asante Kotoko have suspended their participation in Ghana football following the tragic death of their supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, who was fatally stabbed during their Matchday 19 clash against Nsoatreman FC at the Nana Konamansah Park.

The club's leadership has released a statement after consulting with the life patron of Asante Kotoko, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to suspend their participation indefinitely.

Asante Kotoko is also calling for solidarity from other clubs, particularly their greatest rival Accra Hearts of Oak, urging them to join this cause, as it transcends any competition.

The club confirmed it will attend the Ghana Football Association’s meeting on Thursday to ensure this tragic moment becomes a turning point for the future of Ghanaian football.

“We are determined to end the cycle of violence, hooliganism, and lawlessness that threatens the soul of our game,” the statement read.

Despite their immense grief, Kotoko expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and the Bono Regional Police Commander, COP Lydia Donkor, for their swift and decisive response in the investigation.

The club welcomed the news that three individuals involved in the incident have been arrested and expressed confidence that the police will continue their efforts to bring every remaining perpetrator to justice.

Asante Kotoko affirmed its full cooperation with the authorities in ensuring the full weight of the law is brought down on those responsible.
