Ghanaian U23 forward Zubairu Ibrahim has expressed his belief that the current Black Meteors squad, despite their exit from the 2023 U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has the potential to win the FIFA World Cup for Ghana in the future.
The former King Faisal attacker is confident in the team's quality and believes that when they eventually make it to the senior national team, they have the capability to achieve World Cup success for Ghana.
Although the Black Meteors finished at the bottom of their group in the U23 AFCON in Morocco, missing out on qualification by failing to secure a draw against Guinea, Zubairu remains optimistic about the team's prospects.
"We aimed winning the U23 Afcon and possibly qualify Ghana to the Olympics game but unfortunately our desire couldn't materialize," he told Akoma FM.
"With the quality we have in the team and proper long-term planning, I'm very confident that we can even win the World Cup for Ghana some years to come.
"I will appeal to Ghanaians to forgive us and support the team going forward wholeheartedly."
