Ghana football legend Charles Taylor has expressed serious concerns about the competence of the Black Stars' technical team, led by head coach Otto Addo.

Speaking on Angel TV, the former Hearts of Oak star singled out assistant coach John Paintsil, questioning his qualifications for the role. Taylor argued that Paintsil, a former Ghana international, lacks the necessary experience to contribute effectively to the team’s success.

“If you pick John Paintsil as an assistant, are you a good coach? Paintsil himself admitted he wasn’t ready for this level but was given the role. I wonder if it’s the GFA or Otto Addo who selects the backroom staff because these current people won’t help him succeed,” Taylor remarked.

He further called for changes in the technical team, advocating for more experienced personnel to assist Otto Addo. Taylor also criticized the team's inability to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), emphasizing the wasted potential of Ghana’s talented player pool.

“The technical team members don’t deserve to be there. I said earlier that Addo wouldn’t qualify Ghana for AFCON because his demeanor even shows. You have this wealth of talented players, so why can’t you qualify from a group that includes Sudan, Angola, and Niger?” he questioned.

Taylor’s comments come in the wake of Otto Addo’s reported meeting with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council on November 27. During the meeting, Addo is said to have cited the lack of experience within his backroom staff as a key factor in Ghana's failed AFCON qualification campaign.

The GFA meeting ended without a definitive resolution, with the Association announcing plans to consult broader stakeholders, including political leaders, to decide Addo’s future as head coach.
