A crucial Ghana Premier League clash takes place at Duns Park on Sunday afternoon as Gold Stars play host to Samartex.
While the Miners currently sit 17th in the top-flight standings with 12 points from 14 matches, the Timber Giants are sitting top of the table with 26 points.
After accumulating 9 points from their opening seven Ghana Premier League matches, beating Asante Kotoko, Real Tamale United (RTU) and firing a draw stalemate with Hearts of Oak in the process, Gold Stars has since suffered a dip in form and have only picked up three points from their last six games.
Nevertheless, the Miners failed to avoid a defeat when they succumbed to a 2-1 loss at home against Nsoatreman at Dun’s Park in match-day 13 fixture, with Emmanuel Appau’s 70th minute equalizer being canceled out five minutes later by Manaf Umar’s winner.
Slumbering in the bottom three, Frimpong Manso’s side currently have no fears of a possible relegation scrap as they hope that their new gaffer will bring an immediate tactical methodology and change their current status, but that could soon materialized if they are able to grind out positive results in the coming weeks, with Sunday’s clash against Samartex followed by a challenging run of five fixtures against teams all currently above the Miners in the table.
Samartex are preparing for a return to Dun’s Park where they have never won in their last two Premier League meetings against the Miners.
However, Samartex have a fight on their hands to preserve their five-match unbeaten run on Sunday.
