Asante Kotoko and Bechem United will lock horns for the three points in a Matchweek 27 clash of the Premier League campaign at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, April 13.
For the Porcupine Warriors, it's an opportunity to avenge after Bechem United stunned them 1-0 in the first round of the league in November last year.
By contrast, Newcastle have never won the Carabao Cup in any of its guises, twice beaten finalists previously. Their defeat in the 2022/23 final extended their wait for significant silverware, with the Magpies last lifting a major trophy in 1955. That drought could end this weekend.
Match Preview
Bechem United don't have an impressive record against Kotoko - last beating them on 10th, November, 2024. In the twenty-three fixtures games they've faced each other the Porcupine Warriors have pulled up an impressive twelve wins, while Bechem have thrumphed just five times with both side's drawing six.
As head coach of the Porcupine Warriors, Prosper Ogum revealed that some of his players complained about mental and physical fatigue, the Hunters could take advantage and give them a surprise package on their own turf.
Kotoko being one of the competition's most decorated clubs, can the weekend contest offer them the chance to claim a good standing on the summit in clinching their 26th Premier League title.
Asante Kotoko possible starting lineup (4-2-3-1):
Asare (GK) (C); Adjetey, Antwi, Asiedu, Blay, Dauda, Gilbani, Kyei-Baffour, Ntim, Opoku, Sefah
Bechem United possible starting lineup (4-3-3):
Aziz (GK), Abban, Abdulai, Acheampong, Acquah, Annor, Asabere, Nyarko, Regain, Tompuo, Yeboah
We say: Kotoko 2 - 1 Bechem United
Kotoko midweek excursion could take its toll on Sunday, with Bechem not in action since last Wednesday. The Porcupine Warriors have played far more football than their opponents this season and will still be kicking themselves in the semifinals of the FA Cup.
Bechem certainly have the tools to cause chaos, especially in midfield and attack, but they lack the experience of the Porcupines. Their last year hosting Kum-Apem will serve them well but the pressure could get to them on Sunday.
With this spine-cracking showdown, can Kotoko or Bechem pull the strings and make a statement? Let's all wait and see after 16: 00 GMT on Sunday. Kickoff of the match is scheduled at 18:00 GMT.
