Samartex will be looking to climb up from their current position (7th) into the top four of the Premier League table when they welcome Legon Cities to the Nsenkyire Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The two teams met for the first time since April when the Timber Giants managed a lucky 1-1 away draw courtesy of a stoppage time strike from Emmanuel Boakye Owusu.

Match Preview

Samartex are one of three Premier League teams who have won three, drawn five and lost one of their opening nine matches this season, while they have also scored eight and conceded 5 goals.

Since losing 3-1 at Nsoatreman at the beginning of October, the Royals have picked up seven points across their last four fixtures, losing 3-1 at Berekum Chelsea and drawing 0-0 at home against Accra Lions, with a hard-fought 2-1 victory at home to Asante Kotoko followed by a 2-0 home win over Young Apostles on Monday, November 4.

In their four meetings since 2023, in terms of Head-to-Head, Samartex have won twice, drawn one and lost one against a team which just rebounded from an uninspiring takeoff.

Team News

Coach Nurudeen Amadu has revealed that it is "very likely" defender Ebenezer Acquah and midfielder Baba Armando will be available this weekend as both players have taken part in training sessions and are ready to return to the matchday squad after missing a few matches through injuries.

As for Legon Cities, Paa Kwesi Fabin has revealed that he doesn’t have 'serious injury doubts', as all his key players will be in contention to feature in the first XI.

Samartex possible starting lineup:
Baah (GK) (C); Acquah, Adabo, Afful, Agbeaimah, Adjei, Ephson, Mamah, Mensah, Sarpong, Sefah

Legon Cities possible starting lineup:
Aziz (GK); Adjei, Adoma, Akoto (C), Alidu, J. Amoah, Gyesi, Quartey, Sumaila, Suraje, Yeboah

We say: Samartex 2-1 Legon Cities

Legon Cities will view Sunday’s contest as one of their best opportunities to claim their third win against an inconsistent-riddled Samartex side, and they enter this fixture in high spirits after getting the better of Kotoko and whipping Young Apostles last time out.

It is difficult to completely write off the Timber Giants, though, considering their exceptional record against the Royals, and even though they are understrength, there is still quality at Amadu’s disposal and they may just do enough to come out on top in this one.
