A first-half strike from Nigerian international Lucky Nwafor helped Accra Lions to end their eight-game winless streak in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.

Accra Lions recorded their second victory of the season after securing a 1-0 home win over Nations FC in their match-week 13 encounter at the WAFA Park in Sogakope.

Lions' home venue has been moved from the nation's capital to Sogakope following the unavailability of the Accra Sports Stadium and capitalized on the home advantage to return to winning ways.

Nations FC failed to recover from their first-ever defeat at home in the Premier League to Berekum Chelsea in match-week 12, suffering back-to-back defeats to jeopardize their dream of going top of the log.

Before today's fixture, Nations FC had recorded victories in their last two meetings with Accra Lions in the Ghana Premier League.

In the 17th minute, Nwafor gave the Accra Lions the lead after he dummied a missed ball and then struck the top corner with his left foot.

Accra Lions were forced to make an early substitution when Jacob Awoute sustained an injury. He was stretched off, and his place was taken by Lawrence Setordjie in the 27th minute of the game.

The home side came close to extending their lead on the stroke of halftime through Lucky Nwafor, but his effort was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Rabin Ousmane.

In the second half, Nations FC took over possession, hoping to restore the parity in the early minutes as they came close to leveling the score through Faisal Charwetey, but he was denied by Daniel Afful.

Nations FC enjoyed the majority of possession in the remaining minutes of the game, but they were wasteful upfront to make the numerous chances created count.

Accra Lions' back line stood resolute to prevent the visitors from leaving Sogakope with any point as the match ended in a 1-0 win for the hosts.
