Nations FC returned to winning ways and claimed the top spot after securing a narrow home victory over relegation-threatened side Accra Lions in the Ghana Premier League match-week 30 fixture on Sunday afternoon.
After last week's defeat to Berekum Chelsea, the Eagles lads managed to record a 1-0 win over Accra Lions at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese to keep their title-winning hopes alive.
Accra Lions stood resolute against the fearsome attacks from the upfront of the hosts as Daniel Afful made brilliant saves to deny Emmanuel Annor and Faisal Charwetey from opening the scoring in the first half.
The first department of the game ended in a scoreless draw.
In the second half, Nations FC continued to dominate the game, and it paid off after the hour mark when the only goal was produced by Sadiq Alhassan.
Alhassan bagged all three maximum points for the home side with a beautiful volley in the 62nd minute of the game.
Despite the introduction of Ernest Agyensen, David Akintunde, Bernard Kesse and Daniel Acquah by the Accra Lions coach in the remaining minutes of the game, it couldn't earn them the equaliser to keep their top-flight survival hopes alive.
Following the 1-0 win, Nations FC have claimed the top spot on the log with 54 points, while Accra Lions remain among the bottom three clubs as they sit at 16th position with 32 points after match week 30.
