Seidu Abubakari scored late as Samartex recorded a slim 1-0 victory over Legon Cities in the matchday 10 fixture of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The result has moved the Timber Giants into third spot (on 17 points) in the Ghana Premier League table, just three points behind first-placed Bibiani Gold Stars, while Legon Cities have been knocked back to the bottom of the summit, with Paa Kwesi Fabin’s side now in 18th spot.

The defeat is Legon Cities sixth defeat in the Ghana Premier League since the start of this season’s campaign.

Samartex had a big chance in the early moments at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena, with an header from the dangerous Mamah flying off the goalpost.

The Royals had five attempts in the first half but failed to hit the target, with Samartex relatively comfortable in the opening 45 minutes against the cellar dwellers, who were finding it difficult to get going in the tricky away fixture.

Akwesi Sarpong was at it again in the 73rd minute, with the impressive lad driving into the box but he shoots wide. That was a good opportunity for the home team but his shot lacked direction.

Samartex survived a host of late pressure to record a famous victory over the capital based side.
