Berekum Chelsea clawed back in the dying moments to secure a thrilling 2-2 draw against newly-promoted Basake Holy Stars in their Ghana Premier League matchday nine clash at Golden City Park on Sunday.
Eager to bounce back from their first defeat of the season, Chelsea came out strong on their home turf, finding the lead just before halftime through Emmanuel Sarpong, who notched his second consecutive home goal. Chelsea’s dominance in the first half suggested they were on course to recover from last week’s setback.
However, Basake Holy Stars showed their fighting spirit, equalizing eleven minutes into the second half with a goal from Stephen Awuah Baffour. The visitors continued to press, and their persistence paid off when Burkinabe striker Ben Daouda Sidibe found the back of the net in the 80th minute, putting Holy Stars ahead for the first time and leaving Chelsea on the brink of consecutive losses.
In a dramatic finish, Chelsea’s Stephen Amankona stepped up in stoppage time to deliver a crucial equalizer, salvaging a hard-earned point and denying the visitors their first away win. The result kept Chelsea in the chase as they aim to regain form in the 2024/25 season.
