Benedict Afful scored a stoppage-time goal as Samartex recorded a 1-1 draw with Accra Lions in the Matchday 9 of the Ghana Premier League on Friday night football at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Abdul-Shakun Abubakari scored the opener in the 43rd minute, but his goal was cancelled out during the dying minutes to leave the two teams level in the second minute (90+2’) of stoppage time.
Accra Lions Striker Alladoh was on heat right from the first 10 minute as he smashed the ball against the far post of the contest, with Samartex given an early warning, before he fired wide from a promising position moments later.
Baba Apiiga tried from distance but the Samartex goalkeeper’ Kofi Baah grabs the ball to deny him, with Accra Lions having four excellent chances inside the opening 14 minutes.
Shakun Abubakari was next, breaking through on goal, cleverly placing the ball on his left foot, fires and misses by inches.
Blessing Asumang could have sent Accra Lions ahead in the 29th minute when he fired the ball outside the box following a brilliant team play, but he quite incredibly fired over in a genuine miss-of-the-season contender.
The ‘Yenn Nyinaa Dea’ made the breakthrough in the 43rd minute of the contest, with Abdul Shakun Abubakari finishes off a brilliant move, connecting to Fuzy Taylor’s cross.
However, Samartex hit back in the 92nd minute, with super-sub' Afful heading into the back of the net from close range after a Samartex player had nodded towards his teammate in a dangerous position.
With tonight’s draw Samartex have moved to the 4th position with 14 points, while Accra Lions are 14th with 8 points.
Samartex attention will now switch to their next match on November 10, welcoming Legon Cities to Nsenkyire Stadium in the Matchday 10 fixture.
Accra Lions, meanwhile, will be bidding to build on the one point when they travel to an in-form Premier League toddlers’ Basake Holy Stars in the league on Sunday (November 10) afternoon.
