Bechem United will be out for redemption when they host Basake Holy Stars at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour’ Park on Sunday in gameweek two of the Ghana Premier League.
The Hunters will be seeking revenge after the controversial December 2024 fixture, when Holy Stars were awarded three points and three goals due to Bechem’s no-show.
This weekend provides the perfect opportunity for Stephen Desmond-Issah Botchway’s men to make amends in front of their home supporters.
Match Preview
The Hunters endured a tough opening to the campaign, falling 2-1 to Bibiani Gold Stars, and know that another slip-up could leave them chasing early ground in the standings. Botchway will demand a sharp response from his side, who have their eyes set on competing at the top end of the table.
Basake Holy Stars, meanwhile, drew their opening match against Eleven Wonders at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena. Evans Adotey’s charges looked organised and compact in that match, but they will want more cutting edge in the final third if they are to claim all three points in Bechem.
Although their most recent head-to-head ended goalless in May, Holy Stars are keen to prove that they can rattle the Hunters on their own turf.
Bechem United possible starting lineup (4-3-3):
Asiedu (GK) (C); Abdulai, Acheampong, Amankwah, Atugba, Razak Alhassan, Regain, Sakitey, Sanut, Tonah, Yeboah
Basake Holy Stars possible starting lineup (3-4-2-1):
Appiah (GK); Boadi (C), Asante, Baffoe, Tey Bismark; Boazee, Ibrahim, Kissi Nana, Oteng, Quaison, Tweneboah
Team News
Bechem United will likely hand another start to captain Benjamin Asiedu, whose leadership will be crucial at the back, while forward Darlvin Yeboah is tipped to shoulder the scoring burden after a quiet showing on opening day.
For Holy Stars, skipper Enis Boadi returns to marshal the defence, while playmaker Francis Oteng is expected to provide the spark in midfield. New signing Gideon Kofi "Chipsah" Quaison could also be given a bigger role after his lively cameo last weekend.
We say: Bechem United 1-2 Basake Holy Stars
Bechem are always dangerous at Nana Fosu Gyeabour’ Park, but Holy Stars’ pace on the break could prove decisive.
Expect Quaison to break the deadlock early for the visitors, before Yeboah levels for the Hunters.
However, a late strike from Tweneboah could swing the tie in favour of Evans Adotey’s men.
