The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League commences on Friday, 11th September, with Hearts of Oak and newbies Hohoe United butting heads against each other in what will be an epic opening fixture at the Ohene Gyan Stadium. 

Getting a win in your opening game of any championship always offers a great start and goes a long way to impact the team’s performance in the entire season which is why both teams will approach the game with nothing but a winning mindset. 

Ghana U-17 national team (Black Starlets) will engage Auroras FC in a preparatory friendly at the same venue and will serve as curtain raiser for the main game 

MATCH PREVIEW 

Hearts of Oak had a busy off-season with player recruitment and also preseason towards the new campaign and had some tougher oppositions to test their strength making them ever ready to compete. 

The Rainbow Club allowed out some names and introduced fourteen new guys into the set-up notably goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi, Frank Abora Duku, George Paaku, Abdul Karim, Baba Adamu, Ali Mohammed, Prince Kwabena Owusu and others. 

Didi Dramani’s impressive performance despite taking over not long ago has called for lots of bookmakers and pundits to the ‘Phobians’ to win the league this season following an impressive top-four run including a win over bitter rivals Kotoko. 

They wrapped up the preparations with a narrow 1-0 victory to overcome city-rivals Great Olympics to win the 2025 Democracy Cup. 

On the opposition end, Hohoe United will be making their first ever appearance in the Ghanaian topflight after finishing as winners of Zone 3 of the Access Bank Division One League last season. 

The ‘Muje Gabah’ lads exerted their command to emerge victorious with 70 points from 32 matches and climaxed last season with a stunning seven-game winning streak. 

New additions Mohammed Haruna, Michael Yeboah, Adamu Alhassan, goalkeeper Kwesi Nketiah, Solomon Adomako and many more and are looking very prepared and poised for the game judging from their performance against Heart of Lions, FC Samartex and Togolese side AS Gbohloe
