Third-placed Hearts of Oak will lock horns with league champions Medeama SC on Sunday, in a heavyweight matchweek 34 clash of the Ghana Premier League season at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Phobians head into the nerve cracker looking to end the campaign strongly after a difficult run of form which has seen them record one win, two draws and two defeats from their last five matches. Medeama SC, meanwhile, arrive in Accra full of confidence after sealing the league title with a consistent and impressive campaign under head coach Ibrahim Tanko.
Match Preview
Hearts of Oak are currently third on the 18-team Ghana Premier League table with 51 points from 33 matches, having picked up 12 wins, 11 draws and 10 defeats this season.
Mas-Ud Didi Dramani’s side have found it difficult to stay consistent in recent weeks, but the Phobians still have something to play for as they hope to end the season in the top-four in front of their fans. Hearts have shown good quality at different times this season, especially at home, where they have troubled some of the league’s top teams.
The Rainbow club will also take motivation from the fact that they are facing the newly crowned champions in the final match of the season. A win over Medeama would give the team a big confidence lift ahead of next season.
Medeama, meanwhile, have been the best team in the league this season. The Tarkwa-based club are top of the table with 62 points after winning 17 matches, drawing 11 and losing only six in 33 league games.
Under Ibrahim Tanko, Medeama have been strong in defence and effective in attack, which has helped them stay at the top of the league table. The champions have also performed well away from home this season and will be determined to finish their title-winning campaign with another good result.
With both teams having quality players in important positions, Sunday’s match is expected to be very competitive despite the difference between them on the league table.
