Hearts of Oak ended their 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season in style with an entertaining 4-2 victory over champions Medeama SC at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

A brilliant brace from Mawuli Wayo helped the Phobians bounce back strongly from last weekend’s disappointing 1-0 defeat away to FC Samartex 1996, as they produced one of their most energetic attacking displays of the campaign.

Hearts of Oak made a dream start and needed just four minutes to break the deadlock. After a bright attacking start, Hamza Issah finished calmly to give the Phobians an early advantage.

The Rainbow-clad side continued to control the game in the first half, creating many good chances as their quick passing and movement caused problems for the Medeama defence.

Despite Medeama’s efforts to respond after the break, Hearts doubled their lead in the 56th minute when Mawuli Wayo found the back of the net  to make it 2-0.

The Yellow and Mauves briefly threatened a comeback seven minutes later as Kingsley Braye pulled one back for Medeama in the 63rd minute.

However, Hearts quickly regained control and restored their two-goal cushion in the 78th minute after Medeama accidentally turned the ball into their own net under pressure from the Phobian’s attack.

Wayo then sealed an outstanding afternoon for the Phobians in the 85th minute, grabbing his second goal of the match with a clinical finish to put the result beyond doubt at 4-1.

Medeama defender Jacob Amo Mensah scored deep into stoppage time to reduce the deficit, but it proved only a consolation as the match ended 4-2 in favour of Hearts of Oak.

The victory ensured Hearts finished the season in third place with 54 points, while Medeama SC ended the campaign as Ghana Premier League champions with 62 points.
