Karela United produced a strong and disciplined performance to defeat Asante Kotoko 1–0 in their Matchweek 25 clash of the Ghana Premier League at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

A first-half goal from midfielder Malik Abubakari was enough for the home side, who stayed solid in defence under late pressure to secure all three points and boost their position on the league table.

The Pride and Passion began the match well, controlling possession and pressing high up the pitch. The Tamale side looked determined to respond strongly as they continued a good run that had produced four wins, one draw and two defeats in their previous seven matches.

In the 42nd minute, Malik Abubakari scored the only goal of the match with a calm finish to give Karela a deserved lead. The goal delighted the home fans and handed the hosts an important advantage before the break.

After the restart, Kotoko tried to fight back and increased their attacking efforts as they searched for an equaliser. Coach Prince Yaw Owusu’s side pushed forward late in the game, forcing Karela to defend deeper.

However, coach Nurudeen Amadu’s team remained organised at the back and showed strong determination to keep their lead until the final whistle.

The win is Karela United’s 10th victory of the season, along with eight draws and seven defeats after 25 matches. The result moves them up to sixth place with 38 points.

For Kotoko, the defeat drops them to fifth place with 39 points, with their record now standing at 10 wins, nine draws and six defeats after 25 matches.
