Patrick Mensah’s tight second half finish was enough to hand Aduana Stars a narrow 1-0 win over Heart of Lions in a very exciting match-day 14 opener of the Ghana Premier League.
Both teams had a very sloppy start especially in the opening ten minutes of the game with no any dangerous goal incursion made
Michael Ephson was put through with a good pass but was unfortunately caught for an offside. The Black Satellites winger attacked again but this time effort resulted into a side-net.
Just on the stroke of half-time, Bright Adjei came so close to opening the scoring account for the visitors but his header from Saana’s cross was dealt with brilliantly by goalkeeper Lawrence Osei.
In the second half, it took Aduana Stars only five minutes to jump into the lead courtesy Patrick Mensah who - who managed to hit into the net from a tight angle.
The Giant Killers played with so much determination and mounted incessant pressure on their guest in search of the leveller but had most of their attacks curbed bt Aduana’s solid back line.
The ‘Ogya’ lads despite defending gallantly to preserve their lead came very close to doubling their lead after a great combination between Seidu Saana and Mezack Afriyie but the latter was caught for an offside.
Heart of Lions with another heartbreak having received their second straight defeat for the first time this season and are most likely to drop out of the top four after this round depending on results from other games. They travel to FC Samartex next
Aduana Stars pick their third away win of the season after this victory and returned to the summit of the table with 27 points and will be up a difficult task next against giants Hearts of Oak
