Karela United snatched a dramatic 1-0 win over Medeama on Sunday, with Felix Mortu’s late strike ending the Yellow and Mauve’s unbeaten start to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign.

Despite enjoying just 39% of possession, the Pride and Passion made the most of their chances and were rewarded in the closing stages at the Aliu Mahama Stadium. Medeama, who bossed the game with 61% of the ball, carved out several opportunities to take the lead but were guilty of wastefulness in front of goal.

The hosts, frustrated by a 1-1 draw last weekend, struggled to impose themselves in the first half, with Medeama dictating the tempo through midfielders Emmanuel Owusu and Prince Owusu.

Tanko’s men repeatedly threatened down the flanks but found Karela skipper Abdul Ganiu in inspired form between the sticks.

As the second half wore on, Karela began to grow in confidence and hit Medeama on the counter. The decisive moment came late on when Felix Mortu, introduced in the second half (74th minute), latched a powerful drive which rifled home past Felix Kyei to seal a precious victory which also sent the Aliu Mahama Stadium into raptures.

The win sees Karela climb into second place on the table with seven points from their opening three fixtures, while Medeama slip to fourth with six points. Tanko’s side had started the season brightly with back-to-back wins, but their wastefulness proved costly on this occasion.

For all their dominance, Medeama were left ruing missed chances and poor finishing, while Karela showcased the resilience and opportunism that could make them a dangerous proposition this season.
