After an exhaustive FIFA World Cup action in Qatar, and with Argentina’s storylines aplenty too, the domestic calender resumed on Monday and Asante Kotoko SC would on Wednesday host Berekum Chelsea at the Baba Yara Sports stadium.
Matches between the two sides have been difficult and unpredictable lately. Last season kelvin Obeng scored in the 80th minute to grab the maximum points for Chelsea at Wednesday’s venue. The Porcupine Warriors are third on the log with 14 points. The Bibiries on the other hand are placed 9th accumulating 12 points in the process.
Kotoko have won two, lost two with a draw in their last five games. Berekum Chelsea have one in their last five games.
Here are three key players of Berekum Chelsea Kotoko must be wary of.
Mezack Afriyie
Afriyie is a prolific and proficient dribbler; he drives powerfully from deep then beats players in one-v-one situations around the box with skill and changes of speed.
He doesn’t offer much in terms of a passing threat, but he gets into good positions inside the box off dribbles and movement – that’s his primary quality.
He has also improved as a finisher, making more of the areas he gets into. The19-year-old currently tops the goal scorers’ chart with six goals.
Awuah Dramani
Dramani has everything required to go down as one of the all-time great attacking midfielders in this history of Ghana football. He's confident and composed on the ball, aerially dominant and he reads the game well.
The intelligent midfielder bagged 15 goals and nine assists, and won 10 MVP accolades playing a key role for the Nkoranza Warriors in the Divison One League last term before his arrival in Berekum.
As a key member of the side, Dramani has been involved in three goals in six games- scoring one goal and registering two assists.
Kalo Ouattara
Kalo Ouattara is a distinctive figure on any football pitch. His athletic frame – upright in posture, defined in shape, rangy in length – is his distinguishing feature. Not only does it differentiate, it disrupts and dominates too.
Athleticism is the one truly extraordinary attribute that the striker boasts, and it is difficult to overstate just how effective it was before joining Berekum Chelsea. Excellent acceleration and sprinting speed is the defining facet of his athletic skillset.
Ouattara has only scored once so far season, but will be counted on to score his second goal against Kotoko on Wednesday.
