Former Accra Hearts of Oak board member Frank Nelson has urged supporters to rally behind head coach Aboubakar Ouattara, emphasizing the need for patience as the club undergoes a rebuilding phase.
Speaking on Akoma 87.9 FM, Nelson expressed confidence in the Ivorian tactician, stating that Ouattara is making a deliberate effort to provide opportunities for young players. While some fans may not always agree with his approach, Nelson believes the coach has a vision for the team’s development.
"I believe the coach is performing well, and we should offer him more opportunities so that he can deliver," Nelson said. "He is trying to give young boys a chance to play. Sometimes, it may not be what supporters want, but perhaps he has a different game plan. That does not mean he won’t accept ideas from people or even the supporters who come to the stadium to watch the games."
He remained optimistic about Hearts of Oak’s future, backing the team to recover from their struggles. He also called on the players to take personal responsibility for their performances, highlighting the importance of self-motivation.
"I am confident we will bounce back and achieve something. The players must also encourage themselves. You do not always need someone to motivate you—at the end of the day, this is your career, and performing well will benefit you."
Hearts of Oak have had an inconsistent start to the Ghana Premier League season, but with the backing of the club’s leadership, Ouattara will hope to turn things around in the coming weeks.
