Accra Lions have announced that they will adopt the University of Ghana Stadium as their new home ground following the sudden closure of the Accra Sports Stadium.

The National Sports Authority (NSA) closed the stadium for urgent maintenance after receiving widespread criticism regarding the poor condition of the pitch.

The University of Ghana Stadium will also serve as a potential venue for Ghana’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan in October, after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) withdrew approval for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, citing it as unfit to host Category 3 matches.

Accra Lions will now share the University of Ghana Stadium with Legon Cities until the Accra Sports Stadium is restored to playing condition. Initially, Accra Lions had planned to use the WAFA Park as an alternative home venue, but its unavailability has led them to settle on the University of Ghana Stadium.

Accra Lions will play their next home game against FA Cup winners Nsoatreman FC on Friday, September 27, 2024.
