Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has acknowledged the intense pressure that comes with leading a club of Kotoko's stature, emphasizing that the Porcupine Warriors are synonymous with winning.
Despite a difficult 2023/24 campaign, in which Kotoko finished 12 points behind champions FC Samartex and narrowly avoided relegation by five points, Ogum remains confident in his team's ability to excel this season. He is determined to challenge for titles by the end of the 2024/25 season.
Kotoko's underwhelming performance last season led to a major squad overhaul, with over 20 players leaving and more than 11 new signings brought in to strengthen the team. The Porcupine Warriors have started the new Ghana Premier League season positively, securing a 1-0 victory over Karela United in their opening match in Nalerigu.
"We should expect this team to do very well by the end of the season, to play well, and win more games," Ogum stated confidently. "Kotoko is known for winning games. If you coach or play for Kotoko, you know it’s a task you must accomplish."
However, Ogum also stressed the importance of maintaining focus and working hard to achieve success. "We shouldn’t boast; instead, we need to work harder, stay determined, stay focused, and get the job done," he added.
Asante Kotoko will aim to build on their promising start when they host Young Apostles on Sunday in match week three of the Ghana Premier League in Obuasi.
