The 21-year-old midfield enforcer of Ghanaian descent has appended his signature to a new deal over an extension, with his fresh terms set to take him through to 2031 at the Theatre of Dreams

English-Ghanaian midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has signed contract extension with Premier League giants Manchester United, the club have confirmed.

The enterprising enforcer, who has passed through the academy ranks at Man Utd, has finally put pen to paper on a renewal following months of contract extension saga with the Red Devils.

Following the arrival of Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim, Mainoo found himself down the pecking order and nearly forced his way for a loan spell elsewhere during the winter transfer window.

And now, with an academy graduate being tied down to a long-term contract, those in charge of administrative affairs at Old Trafford have said in a statement: ''Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new contract that will extend his stay with Manchester United until June 2031.

''The Stockport-born midfielder is widely recognised as one of the best talents of his generation. He joined the club’s world-renowned Academy in 2014, having been associated with Manchester United since the age of six.

''At just 21, the boyhood United fan has already made 98 appearances for the club, scoring the decisive goal in the2024 Emirates FA Cup final and representing England in the Euro 2024 final.''

Mainoo has told the club's official website: ''Manchester United has always been my home; this special club means everything to my family. “I have grown up seeing the impact that our club has on our city, and I relish the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt.

“From The Cliff, to Littleton Road, to Carrington and ultimately Old Trafford, the journey so far has been incredible. I have the privilege of living my dream every single day, with the same relentless desire to succeed here as when I joined my first training session at the age of six.

“We can all feel the momentum building inside the club. I am determined to step up and play my role in helping Manchester United to regularly fight for major trophies in the years ahead.”

Manchester United Director of Football Jason Wilcox added: ''Kobbie is one of the most naturally gifted young footballers in the world. “His technical ability, dedicated professionalism and humble personality make him the perfect role model for our young players and a true credit to our outstanding Academy system.

“We are delighted that Kobbie has extended his stay here and have full confidence that he will develop into one of the best players in the world, ready to play a pivotal role in a Manchester United team challenging for the biggest honours.''

Since stop-gap coach Michael Carrick assumed the hot seat, the talented midfielder has so far taken in 26 appearances for Man Utd across all contests in this current campaign.

Given his Ghanaian heritage, the Stockport-born native remains unfit to play for the Ghana national football team at the senior level after playing for the England national football team, with 12 caps to his name.
