Nations FC were relegated from the Ghana Premier League despite defeating Karela United 1-0 at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
A first-half goal from midfielder Antwi Sarpong gave the Abrankese Royals all three points, but other results on the final day of the 2025/26 season confirmed their relegation.
Karela United looked eager to end the season on a positive note after last weekend’s win over Swedru All Blacks. They kept most of the ball in the early stages and pressed high up the field as they searched for the first goal.
However, Nations FC struck against the run of play in the 15th minute when Antwi Sarpong calmly finished to put the visitors ahead.
The goal lifted the confidence of coach Fimpong Manso’s side, who defended resolutely and frustrated Karela United for much of the nerve cracker.
Karela continued to enjoy large chunk of possession and pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Nations FC remained organised at the back and protected their slender advantage until the final whistle.
Despite the victory, Nations FC’s fate had already been sealed elsewhere, with the Abrankese Royals confirmed as the third team to be relegated to the Division One League.
Their relegation was a painful one, as they ended 16th on the table with 44 points, a tally that would normally have been enough to avoid relegation in previous seasons.
Meanwhile, coach Nurudeen Amadu’s Karela United ended the season in ninth position with 49 points after an inconsistent run of form in the closing weeks of the campaign.
