Former Black Stars winger Albert Adomah has supported the inclusion of dual-national players, but says selection must be handled carefully to protect team balance.
Adomah said players of Ghanaian descent who are willing to represent the country should be welcomed into the national team.
“For me it’s not difficult,” he said. “If the player is available and he wants to come, then it should not be a problem. If they are Ghanaian, then you have to welcome them. That’s how I see them.”
His comments come as Ghana, like many countries, continues to look at players in the diaspora to strengthen the team ahead of major tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup.
However, Adomah warned that timing and fairness are important, especially when players who did not take part in qualification matches are brought in for big tournaments.
“I understand maybe they have not played the qualifiers and will be coming straight to the World Cup—then that’s a different story,” he noted.
He also recognised the concerns of players already in the team, who may feel frustrated if they lose their place to new arrivals.
“I understand that from the players’ point of view,” Adomah admitted.
Despite this, Adomah said final decisions should be based on performance and what is best for the team.
“You want your best players to be there,” he said. “If the technical staff say these are the players that maybe can get us to the semifinals of the World Cup, then they should be welcome.”
