Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo capped off an outstanding campaign by scoring in Pep Guardiola’s final game as Manchester City manager, although Aston Villa fought back to secure a 2-1 victory on the last day of the Premier League season.

The Black Stars attacker gave City an early advantage after reacting quickest to volley home from close range following a flicked-on corner, marking a memorable moment in Guardiola’s farewell match at the Etihad Stadium.

Semenyo’s goal took his tally to 21 in all competitions this season, including 11 goals scored under Guardiola since completing his January move from Bournemouth.

The 26-year-old has previously spoken about his admiration for Guardiola, admitting the opportunity to work with the legendary Spanish manager played a major role in his decision to join Manchester City.

The match carried huge emotional significance for City fans as Guardiola took charge of his 593rd and final game after a trophy-laden spell that delivered 20 major honours during his decade at the club.

Despite City’s bright start, Aston Villa turned the game around in the second half. Ollie Watkins levelled shortly after the break following a defensive mistake before grabbing the winner in the 60th minute to hand Villa victory.

Although City’s farewell result ended in disappointment, Semenyo still etched his name into club history by becoming the final player to score for Manchester City during Guardiola’s hugely successful reign.

The Ghana international will now shift focus to the 2026 FIFA World Cup after enjoying the most prolific season of his career.
