Former Ghana international Daniel Opare has called for greater cohesion within the Black Stars as they prepare for the highly-anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 35-year-old right-back, who enjoyed a lengthy career in Europe with clubs such as Real Madrid Castilla, FC Porto B, Standard Liege, FC Augsburg and Besiktas, believes Ghana must focus on building a solid team structure despite the abundance of talent available.
Speaking based on experience, Opare stressed the importance of continuity and togetherness within the current squad and added that consistency in selection and a strong collective spirit will be very crucial.
“We have incredible talent in the team—fantastic players—but I believe we need to focus on building a proper team. Sometimes you can have talent without having a team. I won’t go into too much detail, but one key thing is that we must keep these players together for a long time,” he told JoySports
“This is football, anything can happen. They can really surprise us. Sometimes, it takes an individual to change the whole game. If they keep up with the mentality of ‘we’re here to play, win, build ourselves’ with that one spirit, I think they are capable,” Opare concluded.
Daniel Opare represented Ghana at youth level and was part of the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He earned 20 caps for the senior national team, was also part of the squad at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
