The Ghana Football Association is discussing a possible friendly match with Jamaica as part of the Black Stars’ preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana are increasing preparations for the tournament, which will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The coaching staff want to properly prepare and assess the squad before the tournament starts.
The Black Stars have already played strong teams such as Austria and Germany under former coach Otto Addo. But after losing back-to-back matches, Addo was sacked.
Last weekend, Ghana lost 2-0 to Mexico at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla. The game was handled by assistant coach Desmond Ofei.
Ghana were expected to finish their warm-up matches with a game against Wales on June 2 at Cardiff City Stadium. However, reports say new head coach Carlos Queiroz has asked for another friendly game to give him more time to evaluate the players before the World Cup.
Because of this, talks are now ongoing for a possible match against Jamaica’s national team, the Reggae Boyz.
Ghana are hoping to do better at the next World Cup after failing to go beyond the group stage in 2014 and 2022. The four-time African champions want to reach the knockout stage for the first time since 2010.
At the 2026 World Cup, Ghana are in Group L with Panama, England and Croatia.
The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto on June 17. They will then face England at the Boston Stadium on June 23 before playing Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 27.
