Former Black Stars defender Daniel Opare says the team could struggle badly at the 2026 FIFA World Cup if Mohammed Kudus is not fit in time.

Kudus is a doubt for the tournament after suffering a hamstring injury, with reports suggesting he could miss the rest of the season and possibly the World Cup in June.

The 25-year-old was one of Ghana’s key players at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, scoring twice in three matches.

Opare believes his absence would be a major blow to the team’s chances.

“If he doesn't come back, we're in deep trouble,” he told JoySports.

“Like I said, football is, you know, the ones there can play, but I think with Kudus in there, he will add more value to the team.

“So, you know, fingers crossed, we pray that he recovers on time so that he can make the World Cup. You understand.”

Kudus had scored nine goals in all competitions for Tottenham Hotspur before his injury, which has kept him out since January.

Newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to name his final squad by June 1 for the expanded 48-team tournament.
