Former Asante Kotoko striker Alex Asamoah, ‘Makwekwe’ believes he deserves to be regarded among the best strikers to have played for the Porcupine Warriors.
The 40-year-old forward made the claim while reflecting on his achievements during his time with Kotoko, particularly his success in the Ghana Premier League.
Asamoah, won the Ghana Premier League Golden Boot in the 2008/09 season after scoring 16 goals for the Kumasi giants, becoming one of the club’s standout attackers during that period.
According to the former AshantiGold SC and Berekum Arsenal striker, Kotoko have struggled to produce another league top scorer since his achievement.
“I won the Ghana Premier League goal king during my time with Kotoko. Since then, Kotoko have struggled to produce a goal king,” Asamoah told Kumasi-based Angel FM.
He referenced Franck Mbella Etouga’s impressive 21-goal campaign for Kotoko, noting that the Cameroonian striker still missed out on the Golden Boot to Yaw Annor.
“Mbella scored 21 goals but fell short to Yaw Annor. I consider myself as one of the best strikers Kotoko has ever had,” he added.
Alex Asamoah remains active in football and has previously stated that he is physically fit and open to returning to competitive football despite his age.
