Asante Kotoko head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has disclosed the tactical approach that led to his team's victory against Hearts of Oak on matchday 31 of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
The Porcupines secured their second win over the Phobians this season at the Baba Yara Stadium. Ugandan forward Steven Dese Mukwala scored in each half, clinching all three points for the Reds.
In a post-match interview with StarTimes, Ogum detailed the strategic measures taken to outplay Hearts of Oak on their home turf.
“It think before the game I told you the team with a good defensive structure and a good discipline will be able to carry the day so observing them play most of their matches, we realized that we need to contain them and then catch them on the break and when you look at the first goal, that was exactly what happened,” Ogum explained.
“Even the ball that hit the upright it was the same and even the second goal too, so I think we kept our shape very well, we glided and shifted based on where the ball was and we made sure we were always at where the ball was and we made sure that we were always behind the ball and side of the ball.
“We didn’t try to rush the game but we tried to cool the game and then connect those short short passes and whenever it was possible, we play the long balls behind the defense and I think it worked very well”
The win propels Kotoko into the top half of the table, now in 9th place with 43 points, moving them further away from the relegation zone.
