Richmond Lamptey, midfielder for Asante Kotoko, has expressed his disappointment with the poor condition of pitches in the Ghana Premier League, stating that it diminishes the quality of the competition.
Since joining Kotoko from Inter Allies in 2021, the 26-year-old has made 51 appearances for the Porcupine Warriors, scoring four goals and providing three assists.
He also won the Ghana Premier League title in his debut season with the club.
Lamptey, who previously played for WAFA, has opened up about his main concern regarding the Ghana Premier League, which is the substandard state of the pitches.
During an interview with Kessben Sports, he stated, “When you compare the Ghana Premier League to other leagues, I will say our pitches are not the best. It’s only Baba Yara and Accra Sports Stadium I can say are okay. When I play at Berekum, I don’t feel okay but I am okay playing at the Baba Yara Stadium"
"I always say that my only concern with the Ghana Premier league is our pitches. I have to be honest with you. It is even difficult to travel with the ball on them.”
The 2023/24 Ghana Premier League is expected to kickoff on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
