Asante Kotoko have earned a total of GH¢180,000 following their dramatic 2-1 victory over Golden Kick FC in the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup final held on Sunday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
The Porcupine Warriors secured their 11th FA Cup crown in a tense encounter that saw Kwame Opoku open the scoring early in the first half. Golden Kick responded through a stunning free-kick from Bless Ege, sending both sides into the break level.
With the game seemingly headed for extra time, Kotoko were awarded a late and controversial penalty. Opoku stepped up once again, converting from the spot to seal the win and deliver the trophy for coach Abdul Karim Zito and his side.
Following the victory, FA Cup Committee Chairman Wilson Arthur confirmed on Sporty FM that Kotoko will receive GH¢80,000 in prize money. In addition, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) will grant the club GH¢100,000 to aid their preparations for the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup, for which they have qualified as FA Cup winners.
The financial boost is intended to help Kotoko build a competitive squad for continental football as they seek to make an impact on the African stage next season.
