The Porcupine Warriors are set to announce the acquisition of the former Azam FC centre-forward for their 2022/23 season's campaign, Kickgh.com can exclusively report.
Reigning Ghana Premier League champions Asante Kotoko have reached an agreement to acquire the services of Cameroonian striker Alain Thiery Akono Akono in the ongoing transfer window.
The 26-year-old is joined the Kumasi-based Premier League outfit on a free transfer after ending his stay at Moroccan top-tier side SC Chabab Mohammedia last month.
Alain Akono was released by SC Chabab Mohammedia after failing to live up to expectations in his debut season where he scored one goal in 9 appearances in all competitions.
However, Kickgh.com can exclusively report that Asante Kotoko have agreed terms with the player and his representatives to land him on a two-year deal subjected to medical examination.
Alain Akono is joining Asante Kotoko as replacement for his compatriot Franck Mbella Etouga Thiery who is on his way out of the club to Italian Serie A outfit Udinese Calcio.
Before making a return to Africa, he had a short stint with Malaysian side Negeri Sembilan FC after an unsuccessful spell at Tanzanian giants Azam FC.
He was a standout performer for AS Fortuna in the 2019/20 Cameroonian top-flight league season after scoring ten (10) goals.
Akono was also named in the Cameroon national squad selection for the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled for April 2020, but was postponed until January 2021. It forced Akono to withdraw from the Cameroon national squad selection.
He scored one goal in two international friendlies for the Cameroon home-based national team in 2020.
