The ‘Ankobeahene’ of the Ashanti Kingdom, Nana Baffour Kwame Kusi II has responded to his follow Board member over an immediate sacking of Prosper Narteh Ogum as Asante Kotoko head coach.
A board member of Asante Kotoko, Kofi Amoa-Abban on Sunday took to his official twitter account calling for the sacking of the club's head coach who had reportedly announced his decision to quit the club after ten months in charge.
However, Nana Baffour Kwame Kusi II in an interview with Kessben FM kicked against the calls for the sacking of the 44-year-old trainer without knowing the reasons behind his decision to resign from his role as the head coach.
According to him, the Board of directors scheduled a meeting earlier today to meet the coach and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the club, Nana Yaw Amponsah but the CEO refused to show up at the meeting held in Kumasi.
“It wasn't a board meeting in the first place, the purpose of the meeting was to meet the head coach [Prosper Narteh Ogum] and Nana Yaw Amponsah to know the reason of their differences,” Baffour Kwame Kusi II told Kessben FM
“Fortunately, we met the coach but the Chief Executive Officer Nana Yaw Amponsah failed to show up despite an invitation sent to him earlier by the Board secretary. We have listened to the coach and his reason to resign from the club. We'll take the final decision after meeting the management"
“You can't call for an immediate sacking of the coach if you haven't listened to his reasons for resigning from his position at the club. Those statements are not good because we can't be sacking coaches without knowing the reasons”
“Two coaches have already been sacked by the management and we can't support the departure of Prosper Narteh Ogum without knowing the reasons of his resignation. We must know the things happening at the club before sanctioning the exit of any coach” he added
Asante Kotoko have announced that the club will be embarking on a two-week pre-season tour in Turkey next month ahead of their 2022/23 season's campaign.
Asante Kotoko will be participating in the 2022/23 CAF Champions League after clinching their 24-time Premier League title last season.
