Asante Kotoko assistant coach Prince Yaw Owusu has revealed that striker Kwame Opoku is unlikely to feature in Sunday’s much-anticipated Super Clash against Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Opoku has been out of action since sustaining an injury during Kotoko’s opening-day clash with Berekum Chelsea. Although he recently resumed training, Yaw Owusu insists the forward is not yet ready for competitive action.

“To be honest with you, Sunday is too early for him, Kwame Opoku. We just have to prepare and prepare him well so that when he comes back, he comes to stay,” the coach said after Kotoko’s 4-2 win over Karela United.

With Opoku still working his way back to full fitness, Morifin Donzo is expected to lead the Porcupine Warriors’ attack once again, especially following the recent departure of Albert Amoah to Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi.

Both Kotoko and Hearts of Oak head into the Super Clash unbeaten in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season. Hearts have recorded four wins and four draws, while Kotoko have registered three wins and two draws, setting the stage for a fiercely contested encounter in Accra.
