During a meeting at Manhyia on Friday, July 21, 2023, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the owner of Asante Kotoko, made a significant decision regarding player recruitment.

He assigned former Black Stars and Asante Kotoko coach, James Kwasi Appiah, with the crucial responsibility of leading the player recruitment process until a permanent head coach is appointed.

Otumfuo expressed his concern that while other Premier League clubs have already started recruiting players and beginning pre-season preparations, Asante Kotoko has yet to take these necessary steps.

The team is currently without a permanent coach following the departure of Burkinabe coach Seydou Zerbo. Assistant coach Abdulai Gazale has been temporarily assigned the role until the end of the last season.

To address this situation, Otumfuo has tasked Kwasi Appiah to spearhead the player recruitment process and find a suitable coach for the club as soon as possible. Pre-season preparations are vital for the team to be well-prepared for the upcoming season.

In addition to this development, there are reports suggesting that Dr Prosper Nartey Ogum could make a return to Kotoko as the head coach, having previously left the club as a league champion. This possibility adds to the anticipation surrounding the club's future coaching arrangements.
