Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford has issued a strong warning to his players after their unbeaten run came to a crashing end with a 3–1 defeat to Bibiani Gold Stars in the Ghana Premier League on Monday afternoon.

The 'Dzie Woa Nu' had gone five matches without defeat heading into the Week 6 clash at Dun’s Park, but their winning streak ended in disappointing fashion as the Miners outclassed them in front of their home fans.

Hayford’s men started brightly, dominating the early stages and creating several chances, yet they failed to make them count, a mistake they paid for heavily as Gold Stars turned the game around.

“It’s football - we’ve not been beaten for five matches, and today on somebody’s soil they have beaten us,” Hayford said after the game.

“It’s going to be a wake-up call. Some of the players have become swollen-headed, so this will humble them. We’re going back to prepare well for the next game.”

Goals from Richard Kotey Amon, Sampson Eduku, and Samuel Atta Kumi powered Goldstars to victory, with Kwadwo Obeng Junior netting a consolation for the visitors.

The result drops Heart of Lions to fourth on the table with 11 points, while Gold Stars climb to seventh with nine points and a game in hand.

Hayford will now be looking for a reaction from his side when they return to action this Friday as they welcome Basake Holy Stars to the Kpando Stadium.
