Former Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara believes Benjamin Asare will reclaim his place in the Phobians’ starting line-up once he returns to full fitness.
The Black Stars first-choice goalkeeper has been sidelined for several weeks with injury, during which time Solomon Agbasi has stepped in and impressed with a series of assured performances between the posts.
Agbasi’s form has led to suggestions that Asare could face a battle to regain his starting role. However, Ouattara has dismissed those concerns, insisting the experienced shot-stopper remains Hearts of Oak’s first choice.
“Solomon Agbasi is doing extremely well, but the fact is Benjamin Asare still remains the number one for Hearts of Oak, and he needs to take over when he is fully fit,” Ouattara told Top Sports.
Asare is understood to be eager to return to action as he continues his recovery, with regular game time seen as crucial to regaining peak form.
The former Great Olympics goalkeeper will be optimistic to maintain his place in the Black Stars set-up as Ghana build towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
